Getting Opportunities With Participation House for Employment Readiness

The GOPHER program was born from the necessity for people to gain experience and knowledge of the resources and opportunities available within their own communities.  Just like any of us, making decisions about our future can be very overwhelming and often we don’t know where to start.  The GOPHER program provides opportunities to visit places of employment and observe the different jobs available therein.

As way of developing marketable employment skills the participants are responsible for coordinating these visits and for conducting an accessibility review of the respective establishment.  Using a checklist, the establishment is assessed for its accessibility for people with different abilities.  The results of the checklist are compiled and a letter is sent out to the visited establishment summarizing the results, the celebrations and recommendations made by the GOPHER group.

Building relationships and having community presence is key to building bridges and providing opportunities for future employment.

If you want to learn more about the GOPHER program or would like to set an appointment to have your establishment assessed please contact us at (905)579-5267 ext. 25 or dayservices@phdurham.com.
